This paper aims to encourage and support the participation of civil society at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development – Rio+20 and the many processes around it.

We seek to provide a synthetic and objective view of the event, the issues at hand and the means of participation, as well as of many of the activities related to the conference that are being developed, from the perspective of a non-governmental organization committed to sustainability, justice, democracy and citizenship in its broadest sense. Other authors and organizations possibly have different views, but we are confident that we offer a good starting point here, for all those who are interested in Rio+20, irrespective of their positions and backgrounds.
