Fair Ideas
The event promoted by the IIED for the days that precede Rioplus20 demonstrates there is much more to the conference than the official process itself
While all the attentions are focused on the presence of Heads of States and the negotiations around the draft of the official declaration in Rioplus20, a huge amount of independent initiatives goes in the direction of a single arrival point: Rio de Janeiro.
Although the high-level political developments are extremely important, there are many ways to lead the planet to sustainable development. One of them is to gather successful experiences in different parts of the world that are capable to inspire replication and new partnerships
The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) wants to be part of this movement in Rioplus20, between June 16th and 17th. The event Fair Ideas expects around two thousand participants at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) between activists, politicians, researchers, businessman and other community players.
Fair Ideas will feature a variety of interaction models. The schedule includes traditional seminars and plenary sittings, but also round tables, workshops and free spaces dedicated to networking. Discussions are organized around four themes: solutions for a sustainable planet, urbanization that improves life´s quality, business models for sustainability and transformation of the economic system for the people and for the planet.
Vitae Civilis Institute is one of the Brazilians partners and will be present at the debate about “Defining a new economy: how can a innovative governance be used to promote sustainable development?”, among other activities.
The event is for free and open to the general public, but it is recommended to make a pre-registration in which it´s possible to indicate the topics of interest. More details about registration and schedule you can find at the IIED´s website.
